About us
Challenge and vision
What happens if we run out of energy?
Things are changing
Sweden is facing a major energy challenge. For a long time, we have been a leader in hydropower – from large scale electricity production in the major rivers to small scale production in the smaller rivers. This has given a long period with surplus of electricity in Sweden. But all this will change. The recent energy crisis showed how vulnerable we actually are. With the greatly increased need for electricity in the future, for the green energy transition, electricity will become a scarce commodity. Anyone who has been granted a resource concent to build a small hydropower plant, or who already operates one, has a very valuable asset to maintain and develop for future efficiency and reliability. This is where we at TURAB come in.
Experts in turbines for small hydropower

TURAB is one of Sweden’s most experienced experts in water turbines for small-scale hydropower. Our offer includes complete solutions where we combine new technology with the unique craftsmanship required by this industry – from turbine to generator and electrical control system.
We design, engineer, manufacture and install hydro turbines up to 10MW. An important part of our mission is also to future-proof older hydropower plants: by renovating and upgrading existing turbines and electrical control systems, we make the plant more efficient and increase electricity production. We also offer preventive maintenance and service for turbines of all brands. Since 2018, we have been owned by the company IDUN Industrier, listed on the stock exchange. A long term ownership that gives us financial muscles and stability – and security for our customers.
Proximity brings security and a lower carbon footprint
There are more than 2000 hydropower plants in Sweden. Many of them have been manufactured, modernised or maintained by us at TURAB. With headquarters, development and production in Nässjö, we are close to our customers. It’s not just about service and quality aspects: with regional production, transport is shorter. We deliberately prefer to work with Swedish subcontractors to minimise the climate footprint of transportation.
